Santa Monica Vibes in PDX ~ Food Carts & Roasters

My apartment building is located in the heart of the heart of the eclectic Hawthorne District, walking distance to some of Portland's best restaurants, cafes, bookstores, brew-pubs, distilleries, craftspeople, and all services from banks to massage therapists, and just over a mile from downtown via bike, walking, or frequent bus service. The place has been designed to create a sleek, soothing, California feel.

Neighborhood

Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District puts you within walking distance to a wide variety of top-notch local flavors (no chain restaurants here!) Make new friends over some vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, get messy with some wings right around the corner at Fire on the Mountain, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for a fancy night out at Castagna - all within a 1.5 mile stretch. Portland isn't just for foodies. There’s vibrant indie spirit in Hawthorne, with lots of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore here in hipster heaven. Or, catch a movie at Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park on top of a dormant volcano vent, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city.

Good to know

Portland is all about supporting the local economy and artisans, and our custom furnishings and lighting were sourced within blocks of the building; we’re happy to hook you up with our providers. Also enjoy curated artwork from local painters and photographers— these and other works are available for purchase at a special discount through us. If you can’t fit a custom couch or loveseat or lighting fixture with you on the journey home, order a print to remind you of your stay! The exterior of the building promises to be unlike any of the giant boxes popping up throughout the city: rusted metal siding will blend with painted stucco panels and black, burned Japanese Shou Sugi Bon wood to create a signature look that will be visible to anyone traveling Hawthorne Boulevard. The building sits between the vibrant commercial sector of Hawthorne and leafy side streets full of residential architectural masterpieces from the past 120 years. The building has the highest grade surfaces and finishes including mini-split heating and cooling, stainless appliances, in-unit washer/dryer, 9-ft ceilings, huge windows, gorgeous cabinetry with glittering quartz countertops, and more.

We loved our stay! We visit Portland a lot, and this was our first AirBNB experience. 10/10 would recommend! Was simple, nice and clean! Rooms were a little small but a great place to just rest since we were out and about mostly! Was also toddler friendly with not too much decor for our son to get into! So happy with our stay and experience.

If you just plan on roaming around the city and checking out Portland's diverse neighborhoods, there's really no need for a car. The Hawthorne area is a walker's paradise, with a 92/100 WalkScore® and 98/100 BikeScore® , and there are city busses and MAX Light Rail stops close by that can take you all over town, to the 'burbs, and even the airport. You'll also have BIKETOWN hubs within reach (Portland's Bike Share program), and of course, there's always Uber. If you do plan on making the trek to the Columbia Gorge for a waterfall hike (35-minute drive), the Oregon Coast for a day trip (1.5hr drive), or iconic Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood (1hr and 40-minute drive), a car would certainly come in handy. Free street parking is available in the majority of the SE neighborhoods
